Lincoln October 2. Before his three day tour of Nebraska and Kansas W. J. Bryan discussed with Rudolph Spreckels leader of the Woodrow Wagon Progressive Republican league. Spreckels says he remains a Republican but supports Democratic nominees in this campaign.
In Baltimore William Sulzer rejects Bryan attacks and asserts he never served as attorney for Thomas F. Ryan while addressing his gubernatorial nomination, the Esopus sage’s response amid political pressure.
William Sulzer of New York City won the Democratic nomination for governor on the fourth ballot at the state convention, with Martin Glynn named lieutenant governor. Alton Parker defended his Baltimore convention role as permanent chairman amid attacks from critics, while the platform backed Wilson and Marshall and called for a constitutional convention and woman suffrage.

Wilson heads west for a 4 586 mile campaign tour through Indiana Illinois Nebraska Colorado Kansas Missouri and Ohio with Bryan and Champ Clark joining him in Missouri. He plans to address the conservation congress in Indianapolis.
Morning Journal reports Russia proposes a joint demand of 50 million dollars from China for Boxer indemnity arrears. The move targets pressure on China for independent loans despite warnings from European powers. Underlying concern cites China’s independent loan totaling under 25 million, barely covering army pay and government costs. Russia leads, noting indemnity due to it equals combined debts to other five powers.

Belgrade, Servia October 2. Representatives of the powers urged the Servian government not to concentrate mobilized forces on the Turkish frontier to curb the risk of conflict. The premier explained the concentration had been ordered by the commander in chief to safeguard territorial interests, with cautions to avoid incident.
