David Bruce-Brown, a 25 year old New York racer noted for two Grand Prix wins, was killed and mechanic Tony Scudalari injured on the Wauwatosa road course near Milwaukee on the eve of the Vanderbilt Cup race. Bruce-Brown’s Fiat hit a blown rear tire, veered into a ditch, and broke apart in a violent crash. He died after brain hemorrhage despite trepanning. Scudalari suffered severe injuries.
