Florence May 28 Five Mexicans sentenced to be hanged between 11 and 4 today saw darkness fall as the Arizona board of pardons and paroles granted a nine weeks maximum respite. The delay allows the men to be hanged one by one rather than all together. The board split 2 to 1 with Wiley Jones opposing immediate execution. Warden Sims would have resigned if the decision favored immediate hanging. The writ of habeas corpus was denied and appeals to higher courts were rejected.
The governor declines to back a mass execution and reiterates his stance against capital punishment. He notes the board of pardons and paroles controls reprieves and thereby grants five prisoners a reprieve until July 10, 1915.
