Former Chief Detective for McNamara Defense testifies as star witness for the State claiming William S Darrow recruited him to corrupt jurors. The sensational testimony is presented by Franklin as he describes the bribery plot and names involved parties.
Bert H. Franklin testified in the Darrow McNamara trial that Darrow arranged a plan to bribe jurors, detailing a $1000 payment to influence Robert Bain. He cited a October 6 1911 remark by Darrow about getting busy with the jury and described Bain's mortgage as leverage. The defense pressed cross examination over alleged conspiracy with the district attorney as Franklin added specifics of the scheme. Court recessed to continue testimony tomorrow morning.
Yesterday a matter aimed at diverting court activity related to the Darrow trial was moved today to Presiding Judge Willis's department of the superior court for a hearing set next Friday.
Delegates at the Wyoming Oil Men's association convention in Casper approve Governor Carey’s push for a Kansas style blue sky law. Chairman Upham said 3130 000 had been collected and he expected to refund at least 40 percent of subscriptions after the convention.
In St Paul Minnesota on May 28 the clerk carried all democratic precincts securing sixty five delegates for the county convention and will control that body.
Lincoln meeting of the democratic state central committee saw a clash over electing national convention alternates. A resolution to name sixteen alternates for Champ Clark faced opposition before being modified to recognize Clark supporters among the four delegates at large. Grand Island was chosen for the state gathering on June Sth.
Arizona voters will cast Democratic presidential preference ballots today in six districts with one delegate chosen from each. The candidate with the highest vote will name four delegates at large. Clark sentiment appears strongest statewide.
A Skiatook Oklahoma tornado last night killed seven people and seriously injured several others. The storm caused about 75000 in damage, cut wire service, and blocked early reports until today. The dead include Mrs Dalton Olsen and his wife and three children, and twelve year old George Mayhue's son. The injured include George Mayhue his wife and five children, three of whom were likely fatally hurt. The tornado came from the northwest, crossed five miles of valley and a dense forest.
