At Geneva the preparatory commission on armament adjourned after a first phase with delegates including Hugh Gibson and Viscount Cecil noting cautious progress. They expect resumes in autumn and discuss dovetailing naval limits with broader disarmament efforts.
Downpours and cloud bursts in eastern New Mexico caused high water, road closures, and standstills between cities. Artesia and Carlsbad reported damage to farms as rain and runoff affected areas west of the mountains, with all-terrain routes impacted and Water stood in low spots.

Joyce Hawley 17 testified she sat unclad in a bath tub at Earl Carroll's Washington party and drank liquor. Defense says she sought 1000 dollars for testimony and revenge after Carroll refused money. Scaife testified he filled the tub with ginger ale and declined her demands. A job card mislisted her birthplace. birth record verified the trial testimony.
Montgomery County National Bank in Cherryvale was robbed by three bandits who took more than 55000 in cash and Liberty bonds and other securities. Inspector W J Dillman estimated about 7500 in cash and 48000 in bonds and securities. Posses pursued the bandits as they reportedly fled by automobile toward Blue Canyon in northeast Oklahoma.
City Engineer Frank Kimball denied a resignation rumor after a Wednesday night interview saying there is no foundation for the claim. Mayor Clyde Tingley declined to comment to newspapers, while persistent whispers suggested a possible change in the city engineers office.
A Texas mine owner, Braden of Toredo, is held by bandits in Durango. A letter from Braden sent to the Torreon camp states he was tortured and ill while being hanged by the thumbs. The captors demand six thousand pesos for his release.
A telegram from Mexico City reports the abduction of J. J. Shanklin an American employed at El Potero sugar plantation Vera Cruz. The U S embassy was alerted and asked the Mexican foreign office to act. Shanklin is the third American seized recently with no word on the others C C Hramen and Gallaher potentially kidnapped in Durango.
Atlantic City May 26 The General Federation of Women's Clubs lists New Mexico among states with universal membership allowing local clubs to join the federation independently. Mrs L I Taylor NM state president addresses convention praising unity loyalty and cooperation to protect America's future.
Spirit of compromise prevails at the Northern Baptist convention session in Washington May 26 as debate ends with a resolution allowing churches to admit members without immersion while giving immersed believers the right to represent their churches at national conventions. The move follows a by law amendment proposed in Seattle last year to require immersion for all professed believers.
Jesse Bader, secretary of evangelism for United Christian Missionary Society, urged a large Broadway Christian church audience that the greatest gift a church can give is life. He cited 367 missions in ten foreign lands, preaching in 16 languages, and 17 million people unreached, noting 4,500 baptisms last year and 19 new missionaries to be sent this fall.
Flood commissioner J. Smith said late Wednesday night the Rio Grande may rise through Thursday evening but that no danger is expected. He noted preparations are in place for any emergency as the crest is expected within 24 hours, citing rains in the Chama country on Tuesday and Wednesday as the cause.
Abd el Krim the Riffian leader surrendered in the French zone of Morocco and will be treated with mercy by French authorities. He had fled Boukouyan tribes and chose to surrender rather than face native justice in sultanate territory. Details of the terms were not announced.

Her father J K Anderson of Salina Kansas and sister Mia Ollie Hill of Junction City Kansas arrived with clues from New York Los Angeles Santa Monica San Francisco and Florida. Some baggage found may help, and the search centered on a desert claim near Santa Fe New Mexico where she lived.
Miss Nelle Richards daughter of Mr and Mrs W I Richards died Wednesday afternoon at 8 15. She came to Albuquerque years ago with her parents from Manhattan Kansas where her father works with the Albuquerque Motor company. She leaves two sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held in Manhattan with The French Mortuary in charge.
Will county grand jury urges Warden Whitman to resign Joliet head of state prison Colvin to yield parole board post Mrs. Ruben dismissed and six aides fired. It calls abolishing the honor farm, installing a disciplinarian over the men's prison, and notes alleged immorality, drinking, and dancing among inmates with promiscuous visiting on Sundays.
The city commission declared street parades unlawful for carnivals and raised licenses to 250 dollars for the first day and 160 dollars for each additional day, up from 50 and 25. Officials addressed drainage, paving, and flood concerns on East Silver and adjacent streets.

Denver May 26 Mrs Rene Divelbess of Holbrook Ariz will have charges of first degree murder in the death of Mrs Katherine Rosene boom Massie dismissed by District Attorney Joel E Stone who also said he would file other charges. He cited doubt over securing a conviction as the reason for not pursuing the murder counts.
May 25 report that a bill permitting admission to the United States of aliens who served with American forces in the world war without regard to immigration quotas was signed by President Coolidge on Wednesday in Washington.
