The legislature passed a joint resolution ratifying a national amendment under suspension of rules. A deportation bill for Arizona residents was introduced with stiff penalties for individuals and higher fines for corporations. A test vote failed to delay the bill, and a separate resolution denouncing WW was considered. The house exempted gifts to observatories from inheritance tax, notably Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff. The house adjourned until Monday. the senate continued session.
Columbus P. Lyon owner of a local soft drink stand was shot last night when his wife, cleaning a rifle, accidentally discharged it. The bullet pierced his skull and brain. Mrs Lyon is hospitalized in a distraught state. No charges filed against her.
A wave of indignation over German hospital bombings spurred US donations as Red Cross subscriptions neared the $100,600,000 goal. By May 2 the national total stood at $55,689,000 with Rockefeller Foundation giving $3,000,000 and divisions reporting strong takes including Mountain $1,599,640 Pacific $2,089,426 Western $9,020,510.
Denver reports $626,678 in Red Cross subscriptions as it nears a $766,000 regional target while Colorado leads the Rocky Mountain division with $1,144,476 raised. Utah Wyoming and New Mexico show sizable gains over last year’s totals.

A cablegram from the Diritieh Admiralty to the War Department states a probable loss of fifty six American soldiers as the armed merchant cruiser Moldevia moves between FE and France. The War Department authorized the statement and noted no further details were received.
