Washington May 23 A Sells and A A Jones democratic committeemen from Texas and New Mexico will soon be appointed to federal posts by President Wilson Sells as Indian commissioner and Jones as first assistant secretary of the interior Both men played active roles in the last campaign.
A. M. Jones of East Las Vegas is chosen for the post to oversee General Land Office Indian, Reclamation, Geological Survey, Education and Mines bureaus. Born 1862 in Union City Tennessee, he built a long legal and public service career in New Mexico and the southwest.

Boston reports the death in Valparaiso of Frederick T Moore former assistant receiving teller at the National Bank of Commerce. He fled Boston in 1898 with 53000 of bank funds after irregularities were found, was arrested a year later but extradition was denied. He became a leading businessman in Valparaiso.
The Interstate Commerce Commission halted a proposed roughly six cent per hundred pound increase in freight rates on potatoes and other vegetables from Louisiana and Arkansas to the Rocky Mountain territory. The suspension lasts until September 20 while investigation proceeds.
Boston May 23 Two checks linked to expenses during the Lawrence strike were traced to the American Woolen company under William M Wood. Attenux and Wood and Collins face conspiracy charges alleging dynamite planting to discredit strikers. Dweeley and Currier signed the checks. Wood approved them. The trial resumes Monday with more evidence linking Wood to the alleged plot.
A temporary balcony in Central High School's auditorium collapsed injuring fifteen students, with many others cut or bruised. About a hundred or more seated on the balcony were tossed to the floor, many girls suffering broken arms and legs.
The chamber of deputies late tonight passed the remaining articles authorizing a loan of 100 million dollars. The measure now goes to the senate where no opposition is anticipated.

E H Gary chairman of United States Steel Corp quoted President Wilson at the American Iron and Steel Institute meeting saying honesty has nothing to fear from the democratic administration and urging acceptance. A public meeting resolution was adopted, and Gary criticized income tax plans as worst for sowing class divisions. He warned finance leaders may withdraw support for extensions while noting potential Interstate Commerce Commission actions aiding railroad rate increases. The institute dinner included Judge Gary presiding and Frederick Crab tree as speaker.
