Two men died when a plane crashed into a ploughed field two miles west of Coatesville Pennsylvania on Friday. The pilot J Harry Jones 39 from Lancaster or Pottsville area and passenger J Moyer of Darby Pa were aboard. The craft nosedived after both wings collapsed.
The House approves a relief action that clears the calendar of pending proposals. Tin cher and Curtis-Aswell acts are withdrawn, leaving no new measures for consideration. The outcome restores legislative order and reduces pending business.
May 21 AP reports the House defeated the Haugen price stabilization bill 212 to 167 ending farm relief proposals for now. Tilson and Aswell expect a compromise measure combining provisions of Tincher and Curtis Aswell to move forward, with Aswell promising a favorable report if parliamentary hurdles fade. Morrow New Mexico Hayden Arizona voted for the bill, Vaile Colorado against.
The Pacific Association of the Amateur Athletic Union forwarded resolutions to New York asking that Norwegian pole vaulter Charlie Hoff be permanently barred for refusal to enter a May 15 meet after signing the entry list. Hoff claimed insufficient notice, while director William Coffman said Hoff expected to attend the San Francisco event.
Paris said no hundreds of civilians or children were killed in the Damascus May 7 attack reported by the London Daily Express. The government said rebels planned a surprise assault from Midan suburb. 63 rebels died, 71 were captured, five French troops were killed and eight wounded. Civilians had been warned and left.
J Walter Fewkes chief of the Smithsonian Bureau of Ethnology has landed in Flagstaff Arizona to spend months researching prehistoric Ute evidence. He aims to complete a work begun during his early years in the area.
The State League of Women Voters opened sessions featuring Mrs. Dietz selling $75 in dime banks to raise funds. Attendees included Mrs. Farrell, Mrs. Hinkle, Mrs. Ruoff, and many others as committees were announced and reports from the St. Louis convention were delivered.

In Baltimore on May 21 Richard Reese Whittemore was found guilty of first degree murder by a jury after a 1 hour 5 minute deliberation. Judge Eugene O'Dunne will decide punishment next week, with possible death by hanging or life imprisonment. Whittemore’s attorney Edgar Allan Poe did not say if an appeal would follow.
Eddie Rook four years old was found bound to a floor staple by a five foot rope after neighbors heard crying for days. Parents Josephine Rook Smith and Joseph Smith claimed long work hours forced the cruel practice to keep him safe. both charged with cruelty to children.
Prohibition agents, between federal court cases in Roswell, conducted three raids near Roswell and Portales. At W H Taylor ranch northwest of Roswell they found a still 100 gallons of mash 706 gallons of mash and whisky. J D Turner arrested near Portales for whisky and mash. J D Young arrested and Dodge car forfeited used to transport liquor. Taylor fined 1000 dollars.
In Douglas Arizona May 21 city officials expect a large turnout for the mayoral race and council contests. About 2 000 voters are registered with Mayor A F Hinton facing challenger C B Fleming on the Democratic ticket and a separate nonpartisan candidacy noted in local coverage.
Evangeline Booth commander of the Salvation Army in the United States for 22 years is seriously ill with appendicitis at her White Plains North Carolina home. She suffered a severe nausea attack Friday night and doctors say her condition is very low. A nervous collapse and kidney trouble complicate the illness.
Porter, principal of the Creede high school, was fatally shot on the main street of Alamosa by W. S. Kennell, a carpenter. Kennell said he was angered by Porter’s attention to his 18 year old daughter Bessie and halted him with the remark I ll teach you to go out with my daughter then fired.
Lincoln High School girls beat Washington girls 16 to 10 in the playground ball tournament. Boys and girls competed. Lincoln finished with 219 points to Washington’s 208 amid 600+ participants trying out.
Mrs. Duncan A. Pletcher wife of the Florida senator testifies before a House subcommittee about spiritualism saying her dead father sent a message through a seance in Washington D C The hearing concerns proposals to restrict such séances in the District of Columbia Houdini sponsor of the bill questions the claim and asks for verification.
The Duke of Albuquerque and his chauffeur, ignorant of modern city traffic rules, nearly faced police court after a left turn on West Central Avenue. Patrolman Donohue confronted them and warned of a meeting with Mr. Charles L. Ritt later that afternoon. Judge Ritt showed leniency after the duke's entourage explained the outdated laws.
Virgil A. Massie, former state prohibition agent, convicted of first degree murder for the death of his wife at their Lakewood home last February. The verdict carries a life imprisonment sentence. Co defendant Mrs Rene Divelbess is to be tried separately. both admitted an intimate relation but denied plotting or causing the death.
Globe Arizona May 21 reports Mrs Maude Edmunds cleared by jury after 25 minutes deliberation on murder charge. Prosecution argued motive linked to alleged assault on her 11 year old daughter Echo Edmunds, with defense stating Edmunds killed Goodenstein following the alleged attack. Matty Matsuda defeated Shoriy Henderson in Globe Arizona in a welterweight world title bout. Matsuda lost the first fall in 21 minutes by the Japanese arm lock and won the next two falls with a flying mare and a hammer lock in 0 and 11 minutes respectively.
Secretary Wilbur approved the navy court martial findings against Colonel Alexander Williams of the marine corps in San Diego. Williams is reduced from No 18 to No 22 on the promotion list with no other penalty. The case stemmed from drunken conduct tied to a hotel incident hosted by Williams, with General Butler prosecuting.
The House defeated the Haugen farm relief bill by 212 to 167. Congressional medals were sought for Byrd polar flyers by Representative Tileon. Senator Fernald resigned from the senate campaign expenditures committee and was replaced by Senator McNary. Loveland Colorado May 21 Henry Nichols 26 was found with knife wounds in the back arms and chest in a Buckhorn quarry. He named George Creecy as the attacker saying Creecy was employed nearby and came to steal tools. Nichols's condition is listed as poor after transfer to Loveland hospital. He cannot explain the motive.
Five men with New Jersey addresses faced Coney Island court on charges of stealing a government machine gun. The gun was found on a converted submarine chaser used by the group, once known as a rum runner. It had been taken from a U S picket boat stolen last year from Staten Island. The boat was recovered the next day, but the gun remained missing.
