Washington May 21 The Senate finance sub committee debated the Underwood tariff plan amid wider questions of duty on live stock and grain products If cattle sheep beef and pork remain dutiable as the bill classifies then the products will carry a duty The issue of free listing for livestock grains and their products dominates the framing by the Democrats with President consent noted but not approved The panel plans to draft revised schedules by June 1 and hold a caucus around June 3 to advance the measure.
New York May 21 United States Steel chairman Charles M Lehman testified in the government suit to dissolve the company. He said the ore reserves held by US Steel amounted to a large share of national supply and that imports could have supported a rival if a new plant was built in the right location.
