In Silver City New Mexico on May 19 five children of rancher Thomas Pinson lost their lives when a house fire started by an exploding lamp engulfed the residence five miles east of town. Levi, 9, survived after fetching water from a well.
In Silver City five of six Pinson children died when a blaze destroyed their home seven miles east of town. Levi, nine, survived after fetching a drink from a well. An exploding lamp is blamed. parents were away at a neighbor’s ranch. The bodies, badly burned, were buried in a single grave.
Washington May 149 A government statement warns freed German men and women not to boat on rivers canals lakes or seashores this summer under penalties for enemy aliens. Regulations bar access within 100 yards of canals wharves piers warehouses and terminals and require passes to enter water front zones.
Government control of railroads plans capital outlays totaling about 938 million dollars for additions, betterments, equipment and track extensions. Major recipients include New York Central, Pennsylvania and Baltimore and Ohio with funds to expand stations, cars, locomotives and other property as part of wartime efficiency efforts.

A dispatch from Amsterdam to the Central News agency reports fourteen killed and more than forty injured as Entente aircraft bomb Cologne on Saturday. Six allied aviators took part in the raid causing extensive damage in the city center, especially the market place.
Ontario Neb. authorities report Ballestrine Ballestring freed from custody during a disturbance last night. Mantel Ballestring allegedly involved, with Manestro Clark aiding authorities at the scene as the suspect fled through rear exits.
