Early returns show Gifford Pinchot ahead by 9 456 votes with 285 districts missing in the Republican gubernatorial race. State totals from 7 934 districts report Pinchot 499 647 to Alter 490 191, including Philadelphia and Allegheny counts that Alter carried.
Los Angeles May 18. District Attorney Woolwine announced he will travel to Mexicali to determine if bigamy charges can be filed against Rudolph Valentino for allegedly marrying Winifred Hudnut after an interlocutory divorce from Miss Jean Acker. The case involves possible Mann Act violations and includes investigations at Palm Springs Pomona and New York.
The Sesnerated Press reports Willie Dalton claims a cigar during his getaway with 772000 in bonds from the Northern Trust bank delayed his capture. In questioning by Milton Smith, Dalton says the smoke made him sick and slowed his escape, possibly affecting the trial timeline. The case was to go to the jury soon.

Other officers include A Bedford New York and Thomas Wi Wilson Chicago as vice presidents. Directors named Clyde C. Dawson Denver O M Clark Portland Arthur S Bent Los Angeles.
Secretary Wallace announced national forest highways funds totaling 367000 for New Mexico. The money funds road work in Taos Catron Grant Santa Fe and San Miguel counties and a section between Caroncito and Pecos. Additional grants include 61000 for Deadwood Hot Springs in Pennington County South Dakota and 166000 for Nevada national forest roads in White Pine County.
