J D Fleenor colored, under sentence for burglary in Los Angeles, escaped from the Harbor police station while awaiting transport to San Quentin. He ran a real estate business with ten offices, and admitted leading a gang that stole residences. He refused to name confederates. others escaped with him.

New Haven announces Benjamin J. Campbell, fourth vice president of the Great Northern Railway, is appointed vice president of the New Haven system and will oversee traffic freight passenger mail and express operations. The appointment is announced by President Meilen in New Haven on May 14.
New York May 12 A warrant charging forgery and conspiracy will be sought against George B Serugham manager of the International Policy Holders committee Charles F Carrington and Charles Stirrup in a case linked to grand larceny and forgery against Frederick A Burnham and George O Eldridge. Change of venue denied and Burnham case to begin Monday. An earthquake near Meaxtea Chilpancinge Mayboo reported as the worst shake in Serrag.

St. Petersburg May 11 The first reading of a bill to reform the courts will be held May 21. It calls for judges with training in jurisprudence to be elected by the people for three years and for abolition of the senate and antiquated civil and criminal courts. The government approves the draft except for the appellate court justices to be elected by the public.

Chicago reports a compromise ending a ten day layoff affecting 7000 to 8000 workers. Contractors agree to Saturday payrolls but union members must accept payments by check instead of cash, ending the bricklayers and laborers strike.
Denver negotiators and union representatives tee off on a settlement ending a threat of strike on the Denver and Rio Grande. Passen ger conductors will gain 19 dollars a month, firemen and brakemen 6.05 dollars monthly, and freight workers receive a six percent general rise with pro rata overtime.
The Eighth United States Cavalry Regiment under Colonel H P Kingsbury arrived in San Francisco from two years in the Philippines aboard the Army transport Thomas.
