Washington notes the revenue measure faces a divide as administration and Republican leaders demand changes in conference or a veto. Senate Democrats vow to fight to keep key tax reductions, while White House talks with Mellon and Smoot to set conferees.
The Farmington New Mexico Democratic county convention approved the actions of Democratic senators in congress and their insurgent Republican allies who exposed corruption, defeated the Mellen taxation plan, and cited A A Jones for key efforts. They opposed debates at Las Cruces featuring Dr M B Taylor William Sutter H D Abrams Guy Herbert BE Dr Jackson G W McA dane J Morris Nellie Odle H Odile Daisy Morris FR Herein and Elmer Tayler.
Denver May 12 The opening session of the triennial convention of the Switchmen's Union North America focused on registering delegates. International President T C Cashen of Buffalo urged unity against reactionary delegations in Washington while J J Connors warned against radical elements gaining labor control. Governor William Sweet of Colorado, Earl Hoage, and other officials spoke.
Grover Bergdoll, once a draft dodger, says he buried 270000 in ten dollar gold pieces in the United States during his escape years. He insists the hidden hoard is secure and will only be retrieved by himself if he returns.
Washington May 2 hearings by a special Senate committee into the indictment against Senator Wheeler of Montana were regarded as virtually concluded. Wheeler denied all wrongdoing while Senator Sterling protested potential further testimony. committee chair Borah planned executive session to wind up on moving toward closure. Wheeler said his firm received 4000 dollars for Montana litigation but denied payment related to Campbell before government bureaus.
Lander Wyoming May 11 The Republican state convention voted on record in favor of the re election of Calvin Coselidge as President of the United States. The report notes the endorsement aligns with Coselidge seeking another term. Local delegates participated and voiced support for the incumbent president.

Santa Fe May 12 Vina Robertson of Silver City has been appointed state supervisor of home economics by the state board of education Aiivs Isabel Jekice announced. Dates for teachers examinations are set for June 26 27 28 and July 17 18 19.
Five Empire Zinc miners trapped since last Saturday near Breckenridge Colorado were reported well and cheerful tonight. Food water and fresh air were delivered through a drill hole as rescue efforts continued amid rock slips. Names of entombed workers include William Neabitt John Anderson Ben Fresquez Medina and J J Garcia with Anderson's father at the shaft.
A jury in Kentucky found John W. Langley guilty of a 1921 conspiracy charge after about four hours of deliberation. Milton Lipschutz of Philadelphia was also found guilty while Albert S. Slater was not convicted. Sentencing looms with a two year term and fines anticipated. Langley and co defendants faced trial from Tuesday with several co-defendants from Ohio and Philadelphia in the case.
May 12 reports from Millionocket and Bismarck describe two fatal fires. Mrs. John Brogan and four of six children died in a house blaze. father John Brogan and two children escaped upper windows and were hospitalized. Near Bismarck Mrs. Leonard Davenport and four young children perished in a country home fire. one child was saved and seriously burned.
Nashville May 12 William G McAdoo declared at a campaign stop that the coming Democratic convention will decide whether the party marches to victory in November or is doomed by reaction and privilege. He urged the party to embrace progressive principles inspired by Jefferson Jackson and Wilson and warned there be no compromise between reaction and progress.
Henry Haven Windsor longtime editor and publisher of Popular Mechanics magazine died at his Evanston home. Born in 1859 in Iowa he moved to Chicago in 1885 after work at the Marshalltown Times-Republican. He is survived by his widow and son H H Windsor Jr who runs the magazine company. Funeral services will be held tomorrow.
The Rio Grande rose to about four feet at Atrisco before Monday night and climbed roughly an inch and a half, flooding banks south of town but causing limited damage near Albuquerque. High water also reached Los Lunas and San Marcial as engineers worked to protect a 15 foot high 369 foot long bridge approach, with dikes under threat.
Pittsburgh resumes street car service after a 3,200 member strike by motormen and conductors of the Pittsburgh Railways company. A two year contract at 67 cents an hour was approved by a razor thin vote 1,073 to 968. Replacement workers were removed under police escort as crews reported back to duty.
Santa Fe May 13 The rehearing of the New Mexico Central railroad request for per m it to extend its line to Gallina northwest of Santa Fe in Rio Arriba county is set for oral argument May 28 before the Interstate Commerce Commission.
Casper May 11 2 The state democratic convention instructed the eix delegates to vote as a unit for Senator John B Kendrick of Wyoming for the democratic presidential nomination as long as they feel he may be made the choice of the convention A memorial to Woodrow Wilson a resolution urging tax reduction by Congress and approving the efforts of democrats to obtain such tax reduction legislation a resolution commanding Kendrick s efforts in the Senate particularly in regards to the resolution calling for the Investigation of Teapot Dome a resolution seeking adjusted compensation for World War veterans of Wyoming and a resolution urging the use of all royalties monies now going to both state and federal governments in the establishment and completion of irrigation projects were combined in the Platform unanimously adopted by the convention An attempt to pass a state bank guarantee law failed when the democrats postponed action indefinitely This was the only question that caused even debate in the convention today

Alton Illinois saw an early morning break in at the post office. Assistant Postmaster Ban Findley reported stamps valued between 560,000 and 660,000 were stolen.
A farm bloc driven joint resolution directs the Interstate Commerce Commission to change rate structures to promote movement of farm products at lowest lawful rates while preserving transport service. The measure passes with little debate, facing opposition from Senator Capper who calls for a real farmer relief effort before adjournment.

A newly born infant boy weighing nine to ten pounds was found dead in Clovis New Mexico on May 12. A coroner's jury ruled death by exposure and police are investigating the case.
