Liberal constitutionalists report extensive rebel control across Mexico with Carranza captured near Apizaco Hidalgo and several generals said dead or wounded in Vera Cruz. Obregon orders Carranza returned to Mexico City and gambling bans extend over controlled territory.
Mountain lions menace sheep herds in the Spenceville area Yuba County reports from stock raisers. The seasonal ferocity leads to nightly losses of about twenty five to thirty sheep as watches are set on all herds.
The Winslow Arizona co operative store opened with a capital of $20000. Sales over the first three days totaled about $1000.

Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Massachusetts Republican Senate leader and author of Lodge reservations to the peace treaty and league covenant will keynote the presidential campaign at the Chicago convention. Republicans in the House Ways and Means Committee agreed to replace the soldier bonds bill with a substitute. The plan drops the one percent sales tax, extends tax provisions over three years, lowers home service pay from 1.24 to 1.00 dollars per day, keeps foreign service at 1.25, and extends payments from 1917 to 1949. Cash bonuses would begin in 1921 with twelve quarterly payments and a 40 percent boost in value for the four options. Land reclamation costs drop from 1 billion to about 254 million, reducing total authorized funds and the bill’s projected expenditure from 4460 million to around 400 million.
Gen Jacinto Trevine is named military commander of Mexico City by General Obregon. Obregon says the coup avoided bloodshed and disorder, and notes the government chose to delay action to spare President Carranza from resigning amid unrest. Water and power services are stated to be in full operation.
A mistaken order by Cal Francisco Pinerpa led his battalion to clash with rival units in Chihuahua City, causing 27 deaths and 17 wounded. An American arriving from Chihuahua City says the fighting stemmed from misreading who supported which side despite Obregon sympathies.

Springfield May 10 Republicans in the state convention elected ten national delegates at large each holding four fifths of a vote. They adopted resolutions that bind the delegation to support Governor James R. Lowden of Kings until he is released by the governor.
A morning sugar sale begins at nine o'clock on Copper avenue between Pinet and Second streets in the former San dose Market Hawtin. The Journal bought 20,000 pounds at 10.25 per hundred pounds and will sell in 15 cent per pound packages. Sugar tickets available at The Journal office after 1:30 or from cashiers on site. Do not enter without a ticket.
Morning Journal reports Oaxacan Tamaulipas Tabasco Tlaxcala and Guanajuato among states joining the revolt led by General Alvaro Obregon. Carranza loyalists claim several generals executed, including Candido Aguilar and Francisco Murguia, with Murguia ordering mass executions before fleeing Mexico City. Reports on Mazatlan fall could not be confirmed. Obregon urges humane treatment if Carranza is captured.
In Denver May 16 a pact between Vielar-American Fuel and Mine Werkere of America orders union leaders to use their influence to prevent unrest among workers. The agreement awaits Indianapolis approval by international officers. About 3,500 workers are employed.

He said Sims sought British honors and undervalued American efforts, listing six criticisms including focus on protecting large vessels over soldier safety and Navy aims in the North Sea mine barrage project.
Los Angeles May 10 Watson admits killing a ninth woman Eleanor Fraser and claims he pushed her into the Spokane River after marrying a Prayier woman. He identifies a Holden from Arkansas and says he is from a respectable family as authorities outline the case.
Washington May 19 The Associated Press reports Mexico’s revolution shows violence as Carranza reportedly flees or is captured and executed along with key officials after a wave of political killings. Warships and Marines move to strategic ports while U S aid to Americans is organized and naval forces head toward Mexican waters.
The Central Labor Union passed a resolution thanking Carl Magee of the Morning Journal and R B Putney for aiding the people during the sugar crisis. They shipped about 200 sacks of sugar to the market at a low rate of 15 cents per pound.
