Senator Fair defends his wife from public misrepresentation while a Dodge City dispatch details election unrest. Women singers and waiters clash with authorities. several men are expelled as the city braces for further action.
Washington May 5 defense closes its case with attorney Wilson leading followed by Carpenter Williams Herkell Davidge Chandier and Ingersoll. The government is accused of misrepresenting testimony and failing to call John A. Mitchell to prove memorandum allegations.
Reports from Easton to Wilkes Barre describe a severe hurricane in the Lehigh and Wyoming valleys. Widespread damage includes uprooted trees, shattered telegraph poles, overturned freight cars, and a 40 ton rock rolling onto a track. Train speeds were reduced to prevent wrecks as passengers sheltered from the storm.

New Years day incident near the switch at Sixty-ninth and Seventieth streets reports a severe crash between an extra and a regular train. Fireman Jones R. Karpey suffered multiple injuries including a broken leg, burns, and scalds as the tender and cab were crushed and water flooded the cars. Passengers and crews sustained heavy damage as engines tore apart and the wreckage spilled into surrounding areas. A separate dispatch from Little Rock notes Jim Hogodary, a railroad robber, was convicted of first degree murder in the conductor’s death after a thirty minute jury deliberation.
