Speakers denounce Prussian acts as barbarous and urge ostracism of Germans from world markets until they accept lawfulness and restraint. The memorial rally in New York calls for economic and moral sanctions to force compliance.
At Carnegie Hall a Lusitania memorial mass meeting denounced Prussian brutality and urged American entry into World War I. Speakers included Theodore Roosevelt and Senator Owen who said the U S would deploy three million or more troops to Europe to defeat the Huns.
William Ittner of Darby, a former Minnesota and Montana University football player, learned Lieut. John Rosenwald died in France and rushed to Missoula to enlist. He seeks the fastest route to France and will likely be examined tomorrow.
In Washington Massachusetts former Illinois Speaker Joe Cannon marked his 82nd birthday with colleagues at a noon House gathering. Cannon spoke for ten minutes saying he remains convinced that American liberty is not confined to a single party.
Washington May 1 loss of the navy tug Cherokee off Cape Henlopen Delaware last February 26 blamed by a naval court of inquiry largely on the age and condition of the craft and the failure of her commanding officer to report that she was overloaded and to heed a storm warning.
A Tehran dispatch to Washington notes Persia faces severe famine with rising typhus in most cities. Food shortages have forced residents to eat dogs and even engage in cannibalism, as relayed by the American delegation.

Brownsville Texas May 1 Reports to city officials say several thousand acres of corn and cotton crops on both sides of the Rio Grande have been flooded by high water. The crest has not yet reached the lower section and while levees hold, much is new and fears are that some may give way, especially on the Mexican side.
The district court sets William Hassell to stand trial for the January 2 murder of Charles Qualey. Qualey, a mining man with holdings in Chihuahua and Gage, N.M., is identified. Hassell faces a contested case in the current term. Russell identified as a banker in the text.
Paris May 7 Former King Constantine of Greece is seriously ill at Zurich Switzerland according to a Temps dispatch. Those at the bedside regard a fatal termination of illness not improbable and the report notes the monarch’s condition as critical.
Captain D McDonald of the schooner John G Walter tells how he fought a German U boat captain in the conning tower. He struck the German, escaped into the Atlantic, and hid among wreckage until an Allied destroyer appeared prompting the submarine to flee.
An interview relays an American POW tale from Hameln Germany describing brutal treatment by camp guards. The prisoner, once strong, is now weakened after forced labor in salt mines, exposure to steam heated cells, and prolonged cold standing in snow under the threat of bayonets.
W. W. Baith of Maw Paw Alabama an instructor at Loftfield a government training camp for aviators at Helleville NL was killed at 7 o clock tonight when he lost control of his machine and fell 400 feet A cadet in the airplane with him was seriously injured
Lieutenant Melvin Sullivan and Sergeant Calvin K Cronk of the Marine Corps died when their airplane during gunnery practice at Curtiss Marine Flying School near Miami crashed from about 100 feet. The accident occurred late today and authorities reported the two airmen were killed at the scene.
The American Steamship Tyler, formerly a Old Pembroke freighter, was torpedoed and sunk off the French coast. Eleven crew members were killed or drowned. The Tyler last reported leaving Portland, Maine, on March 6 with a cargo of brain shippet, and had been serving under the American flag since October.
Dean J Wilmer Gresham of Grace Cathedral announced in San Francisco May 7 that he has declined the Protestant Episcopal bishopric of the Philippine Islands. He was elected in New York April 18 by the house of bishops to succeed the late Bishop Brent in the West.
Kansas City detectives led by John L. Ghent pursue a suspect described as "the batterer" who attacks women at night. Catherine M. Jitter was found mortally wounded with a neck wound. police fear an ongoing spree with victims reporting intruders and shots.
London reports 98 60 casualties in the week ending today with April showing rising totals. The month closes at 82 473 as German offensive pressure remains high, marking a shift from early low figures to heavier losses in late March and April.
Washington May 7 The casualty list shows forty one women among the casualties with divisions including four killed in action, two died of wounds, three died of disease, one other cause, fifteen wounded severely, eleven wounded slightly, and one listed as assessing in action. Lieut Edmond J LaPore of Plainfield New Jersey is the only officer named.
In Paso, May, a pistol duel erupted after Sauceda accused Lonera of being a Villa spy. One man, jon ewa, was killed and another, Lowes, fatally wounded. Lowes, auditor for the National Mines & Smettera Co, was linked to prominent local families. Sauceda’s claim followed Villa attacks that killed 25 miners at Mag intral Jaet March.

San Diego dated May 7 reports charges of desertion and forgery against Davis and two other men sent to Camp Ulage to be brought in. Intelligence officers expressed gratification over the capture claiming the intelligence office had supplied military information of considerable value to an enemy of the United States.
Hoosta Massachusetts Mayo John Murr ay, a first year pitcher for Georgetown University baseball, was released by the Hoston National League club tonight. Murray had joined the club during the spring training trip.
An official dispatch reports that a peace treaty was signed between Humania and the Central powers. The ceremony occurred yesterday morning, with officials in Bucharest confirming the accord.
