In Santa Fe May 7 the legislature passed the public lands bill and the child labor bill. Minneapolis May 7 The General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church rejected the first paragraph of the judicial procedure report proposing a court of appeals with broad powers. debate stretched over five hours amid protests over mission work in Catholic countries. Tomorrow the conference will decide on rest of the report and a separate resolution about Protestant mission work.
May 7 San Diego reports a policeman shot in the back and another struck by a hatchet during a clash with residents of a house used as an Industrial Workers of the World hub. Five men were arrested as mobs armed with clubs patrolled after the incident amid a public speaking controversy. A man with probably fatal wounds was found later in a lodging house.
