Warren Graham to Take State Treasury Post Monday
Warren Graham of Albuquerque will assume the state treasurer's office Monday after the state finance board approved his bond of 1 000 509 with a surety company. The appointment follows Gov James I Hinkle accepting resignation of John W Corbin who failed to obtain Bond due to bank certificate deposit issues. Corbin cited his refusal to sign a contract blocking disbursement of state funds as reason. The bank certificates of deposit will be managed by the finance board and paid off in six to eight months under the new public moneys act.

Iowa City May 1 Charles Brookins of Iowa University set a new world record for the 220 yard low hurdles in a dual meet against Northwestern. He ran the race in 48.16 seconds, surpassing the previous mark of 48.54 held jointly by J Wendell and Hubert Simpson. The former record dated to 1898 and 1913, with Simpson’s best earlier in May 1918. Iowa defeated Northwestern by a large margin.

Chicago May 5 The motor car of today aids crime more than the stolen horse, says the Chicago crime commission. In 1922 autos figured in 955 felonies. 37 percent of defendants were penalized, up from 25 percent in 1921. Ninety percent of robberies involved auto theft. 2,007 robberies in 1922. Of 115 defendants charged with robbery with a gun, only 12 were penalized. One of 15 manslaughter cases saw a penalty, a reformatory sentence.
