Washington May 4 Many cities kept bond sales open late as the Third Liberty Loan neared closing. Official totals showed 5.21 billion dollars subscribed, with banks staying open to collect last minute pledges. Officials expected the final tally to rise beyond 4 billion next week as banks finish tabulating applications.
Berlin reports that the organization coordinating relief to Ukraine is functioning. Two million centners of corn and provisions have been secured and 1200 cargoes have crossed the border recently. The first deliveries will largely aid Austria Hungary due to food shortages, with Germany to receive most Ukrainian imports in June and July.
