Reports from London and Berlin describe French advances near Rheims Craonne and the Vauclaire plateau with hundreds of prisoners. British and German forces trade attacks as Haig refines positions and naval losses mount from a mined destroyer. London reports that British forces captured more than 900 Germans, including 28 officers, yesterday. Our troops strengthened positions on the Hindenburg line and advanced along enemy trenches, with air raids downing three enemy planes and five others forced out of control. Two German machines were shot down by ground fire and another landed behind enemy lines. two British planes are missing.
The Valley Center Kansas council, entirely female, completed appointments appointing Mrs William Goodrich as city marshal and Mrs George Bright as street commissioner. The text notes no men are employed by the city government.

Santa Fe May 4 There is still hope the legislature will finish by tomorrow evening though chances grow slimmer as time passes due to sharp differences. The senate approved three of seven measures before this afternoon.
