Chicago May 2 Fear that her daughter and the latter's husband have been murdered by Yaqui Indians in northern Mexico has led Mrs ER Gilbert to seek State Department help to contact the Mexican government for safety proof. The daughter Mrs Thomas J Shumate has not been heard from in six weeks after years of letters. Also 250 American railway conductors forced out of Mexico due to revolutionary activity are en route to the United States. President Taft may be appealed for protection.
Spokane Wash May 2 Jerome TL Drumheller chairman of the Champ Clark state campaign committee issues a statement claiming 877 of the 719% delegates to the Democratic state convention of Walla Walla. The statement says the remaining 42 votes are divided between Wilson and Bryan and doubtful.
Morning Journal reports in admiralty a suit filed in federal court by Louise Tobins widow of Victor Robins valet of John Jacob Astor Jr. against Oceanic Steam Navigation Co seeking 60000 damages and costs for Titanic disaster negligence based on April 14 collision with an iceberg.
London May 2 The British Titanic funds total about 1.6 million dollars. A conference decided to extend immediate relief to widows and bereaved families of crew members while a committee is formed to administer the fund. The committee will include the lord mayor the Earl of Derby and the Bank of England governor. Lord Derby proposed asking whether the American relief committee would aid emigrants intending to settle permanently in the United States.
Gov. Judson Harmon of Ohio spoke at a mass meeting urging his presidential candidacy and condemned Taft’s tariff veto as an insult and breach of faith. He cited tariff reduction as vital since the Civil War and defended nonconfidential letters. He also addressed Sparrows Point steel workers claiming the U S should own and run ships through the Panama Canal.
Georgia official returns from 106 of 146 counties show Oscar Underwood with a growing plurality of 13 215. Totals: Underwood 71 556 Wilson 58 841 Clark 20 867 Harmon 8 257. Despite Wilson winning many counties, Underwood gains Georgia delegates with 28 committed to his popular choice.

Kansas City Missouri May 2 A fruit jar and its contents believed to total ten thousand dollars fuel a lawsuit filed today at Independence Missouri by the administrator of the estate of Andrew J Fletcher. The administrator says the jar was found in the cellar of Fletcher s home after his death and seeks to place the wealth under his jurisdiction for division between the widow and her stepdaughter.
Hazel Moore, once linked to Adjutant General Ortel Hamilton's 55 000 embezzlement case, was arrested by a U S marshal in Seattle on a charge of violating the federal anti white slave act. She had fled to Oakland after Hamilton's defalcation surfaced and returned after his conviction.
