The Turkish Parliament appropriates one hundred thousand dollars to relieve distress in districts ravaged by fanatics and aimed at aiding victims and rebuilding infrastructure. This emergency funding supports local relief efforts and helps stabilize affected communities.
A parliamentary commission is to be dispatched to Adana to investigate massacres and organize a military court for the guilty. An appropriation of one hundred thousand dollars is allotted to relieve distress in the district. The chamber also considers pensions for families of those killed or wounded. Constantinople, May 1.
An American dragoon rescued sixty people from Deurtvel and brought them to Alexandretta today. Deurtvel, besieged for days, is reported likely to hold against fanatics. Advices state fourteen thousand refugees in Adana moved to suburbs and a relief corps fights a smallpox epidemic.
Washington May 1 Sultan Mehmed V of Turkey cabled a message to President Toft praising his congratulatory telegram on accession to the throne. He thanks the United States for its friendship and wishes happiness and prosperity to the American people. Ambassador Leixchman reports the government is taking strong measures to curb disorder and punish offenders as it seeks peace.
Constantinople May Stephen I Trowbridge a missionary who witnessed the killing of 1 M Rogers and Henry Maurer fellow missionaries at Adana provides an account dated Adana April 24 to grand vizier representatives and to the mission board. He notes April 14 fighting between Muslims and Armenians and subsequent fires and threats to the girls school and residence of William N Chambers.
Eyewitness accounts describe Mauser fire from Armenians and Moslems during looting near a school. Mr Rogers dies after being shot while aiding a water rescue. Mr Maurer is wounded as bloodshed spreads and Turkish soldiers and the British Vice Consul appear.
The Russian ambassador in Constantinople was instructed to join other ambassadors to urge the Turkish government to prevent further massacres in Alan. News that Salonika troops were sent there was welcomed. In Washington officials announced the US will terminate certain tariff pact agreements under the Dingley act as Congress intends.
A hurricane sweeping the South for three days cuts a wide path of destruction. At least 200 killed and perhaps 400 injured as the storm moves toward the Atlantic. Georgia reports 34 deaths. extensive damage to towns in Georgia North Carolina and Florida. Property loss runs into millions with a long casualty list still to be completed.
Nashville Tenn May 1 casualties in the state are reported at sixty seven killed and seventy eight injured as the storm's damage is tallied across the area.
A tornado passed south of Albany early today killing nine persons and damaging property. Three died on one farm and two on another, with a fatality also reported in Melge forty miles southeast. Additional details are sparse as reports come in.
Lincoln Nebraska May 1 The temperature fell to 22 degrees across parts of Nebraska. Mudding storms raked the state and observers fear the oats crop may be killed.
A spring storm system moves from the upper lakes toward the middle and southern Atlantic states bringing heavy rain winds and snow. Forecasters warn of a cold wave extending from New Mexico to the eastern seaboard as a May Day snow flurry affects the Great Lakes region and surrounding areas.
Nairobi May 1 Roosevelt camp celebrates four lion trophies from a hunt in Mall Hills. Col Roosevelt and his son Kermit, aided by beaters, achieved clean single shots with Roosevelt's rifle. The party plans to pursue giraffes as lions are reportedly plentiful in the area.
Memphis Tenn May 1 The Methodist Episcopal Church South extension board plans a coast to coast effort and will expand work focusing on New Mexico and Arizona to bridge gaps between the east south and west coast.
Cincinnati May 1 VD Plowman a 40 year old Canton Ohio printer was shot and killed early today by Mrs Hilzabeth Forsythe wife of newspaper correspondent William Forsythe. Mrs Forsythe heard sounds at a ground floor window and fired when a man bounded in striking him with two bullets.
Lake May 1. Blade for superintendent of the deliver artment of the local post office was sentenced to three years im unement in the federal prison at Kenworth Kan lade pleaded guilty to the charge robbing the mails, having been in fect on thirteen omitty.
New governor Roth Sloan was sworn in today in Phoenix with Chief Justice Kent administering the oath. Retiring Governor Kibbey praised Sloan as economy minded with no enemies to punish, while George M. Young became secretary of the territory and RK Kirk named assistant secretary as Wright, the Tucson attorney general, succeeds Bh. SS. Clark.
In Spokane Washington May 1910 ex Governor Folk of Missouri said democracy may win in four years. He dismissed rumors about his own candidacy and praised Taft as a good president outside politics. He mentioned no definite opponent and noted Began and Miven as misunderstood figures in the public discourse. The interview reflects early 20th century party sentiment and speculation.
Tecan Piroken of Cambridge Muse defeats Harvard in a clay pigeon shoot 240 to 219 to break the intercollegiate mark. The previous record of 225 was held by Princeton, with Yule notable in the event.
Andrew J. White, claiming to be George A. Kimmel, testifies in a United States circuit court deposition in a Arkansas City case. New York May 1 The fire tasted schooner William Ce Carne viv of Portland Maine went ashore near Mortoes lifesaving station on Long Island in a northeast gale thick weather Captain Reed and nine men boarded their yawl boat and rowed seaward to await arrival of Miel. Crewe from the lifesaving station could not reach shore. One boat overturned and two lifesavers nearly drowned before rescue.

Panama May 1. Premature air brake release on several dump cars caused a derailment in the Gold Hill section. The cars ran down the incline and plunged into the Culebra Cut, killing eleven men and severely injuring nine or more.
Little Rock May 1 Governor lbolughey reports conferences between railroads and the railroad commission. They will pull into effect a tariff one third higher than the Arkansas commission rates which were enjoined by the federal court. Railroads will also implement 2 percent passenger rates for a year as a trial.
A crowd of about 200 young admirers gathered as the Marquise De Vasselot surrendered to police and was condemned by default to five days in jail for participating in the recent Arc manifestations. She was escorted to prison to serve her sentence. Rev. Thomas Dixon Sr., father of author and playwright Thomas Dixon Jr., died at age 90 in Raleigh.
A mob of about 1000 people stormed the Tyler jail and lynched Jim Hodges a Black man accused of assaulting and injuring Miss Winnie Harman near Love last night. Law in the town was largely suspended during the incident.
