London May 1 AP A coal mine stoppage began as the subsidy ended and mine owners’ lockout notices took effect. A general strike could paralyze railways shipping and industries, with union leaders and the Miners Federation weighing future action and the potential for nationwide disruption.
The report from New Mex Saturday and Sunday shows partly cloudy conditions with little change. High around 78 degrees, low near 44, wind mainly from the southwest at moderate speeds.
An explosion at the Miley Kittel refinery in Bloomfield New Mexico Friday afternoon destroyed the plant. Workers Levi Anderson Homer Neal and others sustained slight burns. the blast is thought to have been caused by excessive pressure in the distillation process.

MUSKOGEE Okla April 30 Shade Wallen superintendent of the five civilized tribes and nine others were indicted by a federal grand jury investigating Indian affairs. Bonds were set at 5000 for the indicted men. The names of others were not made public and the grand jury was dismissed to await another panel. Wallen had been removed from office last week as interior agents began an inquiry into tribal affairs. John Wice and Page Crahan bankers of Vinita were among those indicted and furnished bond.
A move to have the senate immediately consider form relief failed. The tariff investigating committee pressed reform on Senator Bremont in the controversy. The senate unanimously seated Senator Bretten of New Mexico, closing the Bureau election contest. Opposition to the French debt settlement rose as President Coolidge conveyed it and warned the Spanish war pensions bill could worsen the treasury deficit.
Coronado Tent City will open June 1 for its twenty-eth annual season. J B and A B Spreckels Securities, owners, pledge major improvements with cottages replacing tents, featuring wooden roofs, reefing paper, palm leaf finish, board siding, and running water and lavatories.

Passaic N J April 30 The ancient riot act used to bar meetings and picketing by textile strikers in Garfield was set aside when Vice Chancellor Bentley issued a temporary injunction protecting lawful striker activities. News of the injunction reached Garfield as AC L U attempted to hold a meeting in Belmont park provoking crowds. Strikers cheered and sang as Nimmo read the order.
Elmer Peck Taylor, sought in California on a kidnapping charge involving two Oceanside schoolgirls, escaped Portales jail by digging through a stone wall after gaining access to the women’s quarters. He had been brought there with one girl and another girl for separate questioning before extradition plans collapsed. Officers believe he then fled toward El Paso or southeast Texas after failing to reach the border.
Persie Cole, said to be the only Negro woman aviator in the world, and William D. Wills of Dallas died when a plane piloted by Cole crashed near Jacksonville after a jammed control. Eyewitnesses reported a tailspin from about 1000 feet, the craft overturned, and the woman ejected unstrapped into a tree. Police detained Betsch after a match worsened gasoline fumes as firefighters worked.
Building permits totaling 184337 were issued in April announced by Building Inspector Earl Bowdich. Sixty seven permits were issued, including 38 for new residences, bringing total residences under construction to 82. April 1925 permits totaled 102709.
