A man accused of killing Officer Alex Knapp after a jail break Sunday was captured in the Es tancia Valley ending a dramatic manhunt. Authorities charged him with murder and termed the arrest a major breakthrough in the case.
H. B. Brittain, George Faulkn er, and L. Longino figure in the arrest of a fugitive murderer. The trio offered no resistance and are named as sharers in a substantial reward.
Indicted murderer Goulet was captured about 7:20 p.m. near Melntosh New Mexico by H E Brittain George Fantllnes and L Longine after a pursuit from Albuquerque. He surrendered at gunpoint and was held at the New Mexico Central depot pending sheriff and mounted police arrival.
A team including Sheriff Romero Chief Thomas eMillin and Officer John Collier pursued a missing man after a telegram from W Brittain announced capture. They used Oakey Clifford taxicabs and were aided by Louis Clifford as they headed toward the city at night.
A patrol party traveling toward McIntosh prepared with fuel oil tires and weapons reported a driver’s message from Tijeras about late night progress. News of Goulet’s apprehension stirred limited crowds as delays impacted their planned early morning arrival near Melptoeh.

Early tallies indicate Underwood leading by a fair margin with many precincts incomplete. Ballot lengthy over two feet. counting takes four to six minutes per vote. Full figures not expected before Wednesday night.
In Hinsdale suburb a funeral was held today for Dr K Pearsons aged philanthropist who gave four million dollars to small colleges. The Chicago burial marks the end of a life devoted to education and charity.
Senate convened at 2 p m with the Titanic investigation ongoing. Managing Director Jemay of International Marines was examined before adjournment at 6 37 p m until noon tomorrow.
The House met at noon and resumed debate on the post office appropriation bill with plans to vote before adjournment. Proceedings adjourned at 7 50 p m until noon.
The House completed the perfecting of the postoffice appropriation bill after a long session. It includes a gag rule on federal postal employees, requires owners’ names in publications with restrictions on frequency, labels paid editorial matter as advertising, and sets rural route parcel rates as five cents per first pound and one cent per additional pound to eleven pounds. A parcels post rate of twelve cents per pound for eleven pounds is provided, with a compromise for express provisions pending Senate and House study.
Senator Robert M. La Follette plans speeches in Dixon and Sacramento as Wisconsin State Treasurer Andrew H. Dahl campaigns in the north. Rudolph Spreckels denounces party leaders for misstatements and accuses them of undermining La Follette after a claimed physical break down.
