A Senate vote blocks the amendment for universal military training. The measure would have obligated men aged 19 to 21 to serve, but supporters lost by ten votes. The result leaves the draft system intact and delays any compulsory service expansion.
Washington March 29 The Senate passes a resolution extending selective draft to men reaching 21 since June 5 1917 and sets registration rules awaiting House action. Debate centers on training youths with opponents arguing harm to war efforts while others push for universal military training.
The Senate Military Committee held a closed hearing on airplane production with Commander Priggs and Major General Bavier testifying. Witnesses said only about twenty five American made fighters will reach France by July 1, far short of the 12,000 originally proposed. Two planes to France have shipped, fourteen ready to load, and about a dozen near completion.
Denver reports generally fair weather for New Mexico this Saturday and Sunday with rising temperatures in the eastern portion.
