Former Venezuelan leader Cipriano Castro travels from Paris to Bordeaux and plans to board the steamer Guadalupe for the West Indies while signaling intent to regain authority in Venezuela. Dutch naval officials seek details on Castro's ship amid rumors of possible action if he lands.
George Cheever, 24, son of a former Andover police chief, posing as a Yale alumnus, was arraigned and held on 2000 bail for forgery. He allegedly collected about 20000 in six months from college fathers, claiming lavish expenses with chorus girls and race winnings. He boasted of spending 25000 on frivolous entertainments and once chartered a Denver special train in 1907 posing as Vice Presidential candidate Fairbanks.
Ramuel Rehneck, former police commissioner under the Harper administration, was indicted by a special grand jury in Los Angeles on charges tied to municipal corruption. He allegedly offered a bribe to former City Prosecutor Ho J. Fleming to drop cases against disorderly houses. The offense dated to September 1, 1907. Rehneck testified before the grand jury, was jailed then released on a $5,000 bond.
Mrs. Pierre Lorillard Jr aged forty nine wife of tobacco magnate dies by gas poisoning at her Dupont Circle home after a long illness and social whirl. Coroner orders autopsy while husband rooms with the body and a note is kept private. Survived by two sons both abroad or in college, with the Lorillards prominent in diplomatic society.
A 300 foot embankment section of the relocated Panama railroad near Gatun has settled about thirty feet at the time spot of prior movement in November, this slide shifting eastward. A trestle is being built and filled with rocks to restore level. Passenger trains have not used the line for weeks.

In Oklahoma near Guthrie at Hickory settlement a confrontation between twenty deputy sheriffs and about one hundred armed Negroes resulted in three Black men killed and Deputy Sheriff Bowler injured. The siege began Wednesday afternoon and continued into the next day with heavy rifle fire and village barricades as a larger, heavily armed posse arrived to press the attack. Approximately two hundred shots were fired as the forty captives were taken and the two sides vied for control of the settlement.
Santa Ana March 25 A physicians consultation on Mme Helen Modjeska’s health at Bay Island cottage found her condition no worse than in recent days though she could slip into a coma at any time and death might come soon.
Portland Oregon March 25 Claude Wells jailed in Tacoma and brought to the city for involvement in the East Ride bank robbery of December 14. He pleaded guilty and drew one to seven years. Wells claimed he stood guard outside and received 5100 in loot. He later mailed 2400 to Charles L Price before fleeing. A post office clerk’s actions led to scrutiny and arrests in Ogden where another Charles Price received the paper. Wells was arrested in Tacoma.
Victoria Mexico March 24 feud between Chavez and Padilla families on adjoining ranches north of Padilla has killed three men and threatens further violence. The dispute began over boundary lines with revolver battles leaving two Padilla brothers dead and a Chavez son slain. Multiple clashes involve cowboys from both sides.
Washington March 25 A voluntary admission by Mr Vreeland of New York that he helped retain a countervailing duty on all in the Payne tariff bill sparked today's tariff debate in the House. Crumpacker argued protection raises wages and resources while Crumpacker and Sheppard attacked the bill as a betrayal and a drive for revenue not reform.
Two highwaymen robbed six passengers and a conductor on a Denver and Rio Grande Pullman car in West Denver yards. About $400 in cash was taken from named travelers including N. H. Hussey and W. Griffey. Police hold eight Black suspects and two white men after gunfire.

Ignace Paderewski cancels remaining engagements of his projected tour and will return to Europe due to a right arm ailment.
At a meeting of 152 Knights of Pythias lodges representatives voted to levy a per capita tax on members to boost the National Pythian sanitarium at Las Vegas New Mexico More cottages will be erected to expand capacity.
James H. Boyle and his wife accused of kidnapping Willie Whitla are held in Allegheny county jail after arrival from Cleveland. Sixteen officers guard them as authorities delay transfer to Mercer county jail until the grand jury convenes in mid April. Mrs Boyle denies theater ties and asks officers to note she does not dance on tables.
James P. Whitla, father of the kidnapped boy, returned home guarded by detectives with the ransom money. The $10,000 recovered from James Boyle and his wife was still marked as paid and stored in a safety deposit vault awaiting evidence use.
In Little Rock Arkansas on March 26 the House passed a bill providing statutory prohibition. The measure aims to regulate alcoholic beverages under state law.
In Denver on February 3 Johnny Cradlebaugh of Wallace Idaho pleads self defense citing unwritten law and dementia Americana as he testifies about a two year affair between Frederick Walton and Cradlebaugh’s wife. He says Walton refused to reveal his son’s location prompting the shooting. defense to continue tomorrow.
Tonopah Mining directors declare an extra 10 percent dividend in addition to the 25 percent quarterly dividend, restoring a 149 percent annual rate. The stock moves to $7 a share and will be paid April 21 to holders of record March 25.
