The four billion dollar soldiers bonus bill clears the House by 333 to 70 and moves to the Senate. It provides immediate cash for veterans with limits, plus loan and vocational aid provisions, in a lengthy debate with broad party support and strong public gallery interest.
Weather report from Denver notes New Mexico partly cloudy with cooler conditions in the south and unsettled north on Friday, with Saturday fair. Arizona forecast shows generally fair Friday with some unsettled areas in the north, temperatures little changed. Local airport data records 24 hour conditions ending 6 p.m. yesterday with ghost temperature 72 and humidity 66 percent at 6 a.m. Southwest wind expected with partly cloudy day.
Five year old Walter Large nephew of Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover drowned at the Hoover home in Palo Alto during a family reunion. Stanford President Dr Ray Lyman Wilbur treated him for three hours but declared there was no hope. Hoover cancelled a San Francisco speaking engagement.
New York March 23. An operation at sea on Donald Head of the University of Pennsylvania relay team will likely keep him from competing with Oxford and Cambridge. He was operated on for blood poisoning and may not recover in time to participate.
John L. Lewis president of the United Mine Workers charges that big business and Americanism groups are trying to crush organized labor. He spoke after a three day wage arbitration session that failed to halt an April 1 miners strike involving about 600000 workers.
Representative MacArthur of Oregon warns that the House Appropriations Committee proposes only 65 000 for the army and navy. He says the drastic cut would put the United States on a personnel basis with Japan, breaking the 5 5 3 ratio from the arms conference. He notes some reductions are needed but argues the cut goes too far.
The weekly crop review shows winter wheat and other fall sown grains generally improved through the week ending Tuesday. Some dryness persists in the southwest and western lake region suffers sleet and glaze damage. Wheat improves in Ohio. Missouri and Kansas report satisfactory conditions. Oklahoma shows progress. Texas sees improvement despite green bugs. oats seeding slow in central states. California sugar beets nearly finished with early plantings up and healthy.
Fred M. McClure former newspaper circulation manager from Cleveland Ohio and Tucson Arizona and El Paso was denied bond after a preliminary hearing in El Paso Justice R B Rawlins remanded him to county jail on a murder charge involving Miss Louise Frerit vel 28. Frerit vel was shot in the back of the head and died instantly in a car on a lonely road. He claimed the girl shot herself angered by his plans to go to Baltimore and rejoin his wife in Cleveland.
In Ul, New Jersey, Rev. W C Ramsay, pastor of Union Hill Methodist Church for thirty years, earns less than 8 weekly and spends six days a week as a floor walker and section manager at a Manhattan department store, keeping the role secret from his parishioners.
Frank Piano claimed he shot his 17 year old son to save him from a wayward career and was found not guilty by reason of insanity after a 35 minute jury deliberation in Chicago.
Clovis New Mexico residents prepare for the Shrine ceremonial in Clovia with about 200 visitors expected. The event, led by Batut Abyad Semple of Albuquerque and the local Shrine club, features a parade at 1 a m, luncheons for nobles and novices and for women, a ceremonial session in the afternoon, a lantern event, and a ball at Elks hall starting at 9 o'clock.
Washington March 23 The special army board report on the Roma disaster at Hampton Virginia will be made public tomorrow Secretary Weeks announced today.

Experts attribute the decline to U.S. demands for army expenses on the Rhine and reparations pressure, plus Berlin’s moratorium terms. Berlin bank profits cited as contrast, noting Berliner Handeln Gesellschaft earning 62 million marks in 1921, up from 37 million in 1920.
Warren RB Strong of St Paul was sentenced to 45 days in the city workhouse after pleading guilty to driving an automobile while intoxicated. His father’s will, filed for probate here last Tuesday, provides a provision that the heir must abstain from alcohol and drugs to inherit about $500,000.
