The Day in Congress reports resumed debate on the government armor plate plant bill. The Post Office Committee heard protests from railroads on mail pay changes. Tillman’s bill passed 58 to 28 authorizing 11.5 million dollars to acquire a government armor plate factory. Adjourned at 7 03 p.m.

McKinney also reports a 500 000 dollar fire at the cotton compress plant.
Hobart Oklahoma March 21 The Interstate Compress company plant in Hobart containing seven thousand bales of cotton was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin. The loss was estimated over 450000 and firefighting was hampered by high winds and insufficient water.
Reports from Ness City indicate Utica western Kansas has been destroyed by fire with wires down. Modoc west of Utica also destroyed by fire. Prairie fires south of Jetmore burned multiple farms, a Ness City area house fire, and a large barn south of Alexander. Wire outages hinder totals.

Two blocks wide at start, eight to ten blocks at peak, leaving about five thousand homeless and starving without shelter or supplies. Local reports warn food and clothing must be sent from outside.
