Allied forces advance along a hundred mile front as American ships suffer losses. Three U boats sink U S steamers with fourteen missing. The City of Memphis goes down after gunfire while part of its crew is safe. Search operations are underway for others.
The steamships City of Memphis Illinois and Vigilancia were sunk with crews in ballast or ashore. Fourteen Vigilancia sailors and several City of Memphis crew members are missing while the Illinois crew landed safely. A patrol boat searches for missing seamen near the Seilly islands.
London reports sunk City of Memphis a 5252 ton American freight steamer with 9 654 bales of cotton aboard on a return voyage from Havre. Captain L P Borum of Norfolk led a crew including 48 Americans and several naturalized sailors. The ship wore American flags and was halted by a German sub off Scilly Islands January 29 before being sunk within 48 hours' sail from Cardiff.

Russians report victories in Turkish Armenia Persia and Mesopotamia, with Van reportedly captured and Turkish retreat ongoing. Soviet coastal forts Sveaborg and Viborg reportedly defect to the new Russian government.
British troops continue rapid advance on retreating Germans. They occupy Nesle Kaliines and Peronne and push about forty five miles along the front. More than sixty villages taken in the latest official British HQ report.
Paris March 18 French troops advance between the Avre and the Oise on a sixty kilometer front. Nesle is entered, along the Somme the advance reaches twelve and a half miles. Soissons area sees rouy, Carienine and Nouvronvingre captured. NGven occupied by cavalry as patrols clash with rear guards.
