German forces advance along the western front claim successes at key points near fortified French positions. Berlin acknowledges some recaptured fortifications as the conflict continues with Joffre's troops resisting French defense efforts.
Russian forces push toward Trebizond as British and French troops face heavy German attacks near Verdun and Douaumont. German claims of gains are challenged by French reports as bombardments press French positions from Eix to Bonzee. Italians press on against Austrians along the Isonzo with Tolmino bridge head bombarded.

Denver area forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for fair skies with little temperature change. A British report from the Black Sea describes Turkish forces retreating from Kut el Amara due to water shortages, claiming 2,000 enemy dead after a trench clash.
The British main force attacked Turkish troops on the right bank of the Tigris in Mesopotamia on March 16. After briefly occupying some trenches they were repulsed by a Turkish counter-attack and forced back to their original positions, with the Turkish war department reporting 2,000 British dead in the trenches.
Washington reports Capt. W. S. Sims told the house naval committee that America's pre dreadnought fleet would be outmatched by newer ships from Britain and others. He cited flawed designs on the Oregon Kentucky and Connecticut class and praised modern American battle craft as well built.
Commander Funston is given authority to suppress bandit forces without further instruction from the War Department. The announcement states he will not be hindered by detailed directives, enabling rapid action.
Three hundred Mexican infantrymen under Gen. P Elias Calles head to San Luis pass near the confluence of New Mexican Sonora and Chihuahua borders. They join Seventh Cavalry to patrol the frontier and wear red armbands to avoid Villa forces. Tenth Cavalry from Fort Huachuca arrives at Forest Station awaiting orders.
At Fort Bliss Post hospital four surviving wounded soldiers from Colummi bus are reported to be doing nicely. Private Michael Barmazel of machine gun troop, head wound, has a good chance to recover.
Colonel Slocum prepared and anxious to pursue the bandit leader while the chase is hot. Local residents alarmed by reports of the villa proximity near Columbus as authorities coordinate tracking efforts and mobilize guards.

President Wilson directs American columns under Major General Funston to pursue Francisco Villa and his bandits with the aim of capturing them dead or alive. The move is presented as aid to Carranza and not an invasion, with secrecy and censorship planned for the operation. Carranza reacts with no public comment.
An American rancher was killed by about 200 Mexican bandits crossing the border southeast of Osborne Junction in Arizona. Many head of livestock were killed and driven off, according to reports reaching Hishee.
Six suspected Villa supporters were arrested in El Paso after a crackdown on alleged agents. General Manuel Panda and Colonel Pablo Luna were detained, and the Mexican paper La Constitucion was suppressed for an editorial defending Villa. Police doubled street patrols and guarded the city jail as suspects were held in separate cells.
London March 10 Lieutenant General Jan Christian Smuts commanding the East Africa expedition reports Taveta and Salaita fallen to British forces. German defenders with a machine gun surrendered and operations continue on the northern frontier between German and British colonies. Taveta lies on the British side of the line.
