Geneva March 9 AP reports a disarmament move aimed at ensuring American membership on the League of Nations technical committees, especially military and naval. The preparatory commission meeting, with the United States as a full member, is expected in May at Geneva. Britain suggests equal footing for all participants in the technical committees.
March 9 report details a sudden consultation among British Foreign Secretary Austen Chamberlain and German officials Stressmann and Luther. Ten men were rescued alive from Crab Orchard mine number 5 in Eccles, West Virginia, after an explosion that entombed workers for about 26 hours. Eight remain missing as rescuers search. nine bodies were recovered and a tenth located. J. R. Russell, a survivor of the 1914 disaster, led a mining life with a wife and child. In mine number 6, Arthur Wilkingon died, possibly from suffocation or trolley contact, while 34 workers escaped.

Six inmates at a north side convict camp mutinied and overpowered guards Barfield Newsome and Reid. Newsome was shot and seriously wounded while Barfield and Reid were severely beaten. Frank Knauber of 1620 East Central narrowly escaped death Tuesday night when his car struck a South Third Street street car head on in the 900 block. He suffered severe bruises and cuts but was not believed seriously injured. The street car operator Mrs H W Lee said Knauber was driving at high speed on the car track and struck the car after she applied brakes. The impact broke the steering wheel and damaged both vehicles. Knauber was taken to St Joseph's hospital then home for care with an X ray to check for broken bones.
Frank Litts, a former cowboy and miner, escaped from the estate hospital for the criminal insane Monday night after being found insane in a trial over an attempted arson at a Meat packing plant in Rockford Jr. He claimed love of horses drove the crime and that he was sane.

C L Bolin of 305 Dartmouth Avenue is jailed on assault and theft charges from H W Johnson of Okmulgee Oklahoma. Bolin's party includes H E Johnson and Johnny Thompson, with Mrs Bolin unheld. Johnson alleges Bolin struck him with a bottle and drove off with the sedan. Bolin claims accident and sets hearing for Wednesday.
The middle west relief delegates heard Edwin T. Meredith describe a proposed agriculture stabiliza tion commission to guarantee minimum prices for wheat corn sugar cotton butter and wool. The plan would adjust prices yearly to influence production and require an excise tax of half a percent on each crop to cover losses and surplus handling. The delegation resumes testimony Wednesday.
