More than 60 men women and children are injured when a burning house wall collapses onto a movie theater in Winchester Kentucky during a chaotic incident.
A powerful tornado carved a quarter mile wide path over twenty miles through Vanwert county and nearby towns causing multiple deaths and widespread destruction. Families hunted for survivors as telegraph and telephone lines failed and rail traffic halted.
Strong winds that swept from eastern Colorado into Indiana and Ohio caused heavy property damage and several fatalities. Ohio towns were hardest hit with near total destruction in some areas. Winds then moved into Missouri Kansas and Illinois with significant structural damage and injuries. Camp Punsteen reported minor wind damage.
Martin Phillips a 19 year old from Deming New Mexico allegedly forged his father’s name on a 450 dollar check and fled with a touring car toward the coast to finance a claimed pearl fisheries venture. He and a 14 year old Deming companion were found in a furnished cottage near Portugese Bend Los Angeles. Phillips admitted borrowing items to fund a westward trip to pursue the supposed fisheries, a plan he said aimed to help repay his parents.
Pravda reports that despite peace talks Germans resume attacks in the Gomel Novoe Zybkov area to gain strategic advantage for front consolidation.
March 9 report lists Jarry C McHenry of Des Moines killed in action. He served as captain of Company B, Third Iowa and was a nephew of Senator Albert B Cummins of Iowa.
Crown Prince Rupprecht troops on the Flanders front captured numerous prisoners after active reconnaissance, according to an official statement issued by the German general staff via London.
An official statement notes Berlin to London Friday events with bombs from several airplanes. Air raid effects were observed over London Margate and Sheerness, marking renewed bombing activity in the area.
In Winchester Kentucky a wall of a burned building adjoining a movie theater collapsed during a blast of debris, killing twelve people including ten children. Dozens more were injured and rushed to Clark County Hospital as volunteers organized rescue efforts and the theater crowd panicked but escaped through wide doors.
John Powers Thomas Powers and Thomas Bisson were captured eight miles south of the Mexican border by a American cavalry patrol and brought to Graham county jail. They are held for trial on charges of killing three Graham county officers on February 10 during an alleged draft evasion arrest. Thomas Powers suffers a left eye wound and may need removal.
Paris reports German troops attempted a trench raid at Menecel on the Lorraine border northeast of Nancy. The war office says the raiders were repulsed.
Nurses at Memorial Institute Chicago receive masks when handling infectious cases. Dr George Ho Weaver notes few nurse infections since mask use began. The masks use double thickness gauze covering from chin to eyes.
A handcar joyride near Socorro New Mexico ended in a high speed collision injuring six youths and a man. John Shannon a Santa Fe section foreman likely fatally injured Francisco Armijo of Albuquerque severely injured with broken leg and spinal puncture. The other boys Clarence Abeyta Walter Smiley Clark Newcomb and Robert Hilton from Socorro suffered superficial injuries.
The weather report notes generally fair conditions in Denver and New Mexico for Sunday and Monday with little change in temperature. No significant storms or precipitation expected.

A young woman died after wreckage trapped her for hours, another survived, and a hospital patient later died from roof debris injuries. A large nursing home was damaged but occupants escaped.
George von L. Meyer a former cabinet member and diplomat died at his home after a lingering illness. His public life included ambassador to Italy and the naval secretary position under Theodore Roosevelt. He served as postmaster general and was about sixty. His widow survives.
British Army dispatch reports Belgian troops under a lone commander and nine men with a machine gun held a bridgehead against about 300 Germans for an hour. The Belgians then retook seven posts with chasseurs, supported by artillery, despite German losses and prisoners taken.

Peking reports a new Russian group led by Prince Nicholas Koude-neff and Horvath plans to back General Seminoff in Siberia. Four field guns and fifteen machine guns were sent to Kiensk on the Manchurian railway as recruitment grows.
