Representative Fordney MI argues the measure surrenders revenue, harms domestic beet producers, and benefits sugar refiners led by the sugar trust. He cites 112000 sugar beet farmers and claims the Democratic plan would raise prices for consumers while empowering importers.
The senate will start voting on the arbitration treaties with Great Britain and France at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon. New York March 6 George W Perkins refused to reveal the purpose of his Oyster Bay visit or confirm meeting with Colonel Roosevelt. He said a formal statement would come if he has anything to say. He later acknowledged carrying a message from Senator Dixon and declined to discuss its contents.
Theodore Roosevelt served as a juror in Mineola marking his first time on a jury and earning three dollars a day. A crowd greeted him as he arrived from Oyster Bay and a lengthy case continued from the day before was expected to occupy most of the session.
