Portland Oregon March 4. The gateway to the Northwest remains open for through traffic while Southern Pacific lines detour 1500 to 2000 miles due to unprecedented floods in Nevada. Northern Pacific Great Northern and Oregon Railroad navigations confirm test running of main lines from Portland to Puget Sound resumes in about two weeks with limited disruption.
The report to A M Stephene indicates trains will roll over the Nevada routes within three or four days. W R Beott of the Southern Pacific submitted the note detailing efforts to push through the lines for the annual weighing to determine compensation for carrying mail.

C C Clinton, who deserted a wife in Kansas to marry a young woman in Raton New Mexico, was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary for bigamy by Judge Essex in Junta Colorado on March 4.
A Santa Fe passenger train from La Junta to Las Animas derailed twenty miles west of La Junta. Nine people were injured, including J. W. Coombs, Charles W. Buck, and A. Holland, with injuries ranging from bruises to head injuries. No fatalities reported. seriously hurt taken to La Junta hospital.

New York reports that former Magistrate Fuohong, convicted of bribery, was sentenced to Sing Sing for an indeterminate term with a maximum of two years and four months and a minimum of one year.
The cooks union adopts a resolution declaring houses employing Orientals unfair to organized labor. Cooks will not be ordered to walk out immediately but may not wear union buttons and employers will be given time to hire white help.
