Taft takes the oath as President of the United States in a storm shortened by an unexpected blizzard. Outdoor ceremonies are abandoned but a picturesque parade proceeds through a snow soaked Pennsylvania Avenue. The Senate chamber holds the inaugural exercises with a memorable address.
William Howard Taft took the oath of office in the Senate chamber marking the first indoor inaugural since 1843 amid a Washington blizzard. The ceremony followed by a grand parade, Roosevelt’s farewell, and a brilliant inaugural ball at the White House as snow disrupted outdoor events and rail service.
President Taft pledges to continue reforms begun by his predecessor, seeks stronger federal supervision of railroads and interstate commerce, and proposes amendments to anti trust laws. He calls for a revised tariff, a balanced revenue plan, and economical governance to sustain national growth and defense.

The retiring president Theodore Roosevelt and Mrs Roosevelt depart the capital for Oyster Bay at 3 30 pm after a seven year term marked by active leadership. A vast crowd at Union Station salutes him as he travels with an escort of New York Republicans.
St. Paul March 4 The house recessed during the Taft inauguration as Republicans and Democrats voiced loyalty to ex President Roosevelt and to Taft. A rising vote followed the eulogies and the speaker was instructed to send telegrams of congratulations to Roosevelt and Taft.
In Pittsburg on March 4 a telegram signed by 1500 Pittsburgers to Theodore Roosevelt praised him as the greatest president of the United States in modern times. They sent their esteem and best wishes as he traveled beyond the city.
President Taft and Governor Hughes plan to review the Seventh New York Infantry, delayed in arrival and unable to join the inaugural parade, from the reviewing stand in Washington on March 4.

Davis claims he found it among refuse and hid it in his trunk.
