The New Mexico House rejected a judiciary committee report to table bill No. 42 restoring the old jury system by 13 to 11. Debate centered on dangers of favoritism under the old panel method and concerns about liberty and self-government. The afternoon session then passed a bill to revert to the old jury commission system by 128 to 11, with leaders warning of reactionary steps.
