Iowa outlaws Polk Wells and Bill Morris, recently travelling from Randolph Wisconsin to Riverton Iowa, were surprised awake on a train near Sidney Iowa by sleeping sheriffs Chandler and Wilson. Wells was shot six times and Morris five. both were taken for treatment with poor prospects of recovery. The pair had been linked to multiple robberies and murders across Iowa Missouri Kansas, including Manhattan Kansas and Winston Missouri incidents.
