Denver February 28 A Lincoln Fellows irrigation engineer from the agriculture department reports a westward expansion of productive farming into western Kansas parts of Oklahoma the Panhandle of Texas and eastern New Mexico He predicts irrigation will transform dry farming areas with modest water into profitable agriculture including added cotton or grain yields and feeding centers at water holes where water is available
Loula Bruey a 50 year old farmer committed suicide by hanging in the county jail on the eve of his murder trial for the death of Bainvel McNeens age 18. Bruey faced possible death penalty and had planned to plead temporary insanity citing revelations about his daughter's relation with the missing man.

The Smithsonian plans the most extensive Africa expedition to gather about 100 species for display at the National Zoological Park in Washington. Led by Dr. William M. Mann, the six month journey will start in March, traveling Tanganyika in British East Africa and returning with African wildlife previously unseen in America.

Elberton Georgia February 28 five members of the Fortson family died and two children were seriously injured when a Seaboard Air Line passenger train struck their automobile at Oglesbys crossing near Elberton. Mr Fortson said he stopped at the crossing to look for a due train then crossed as the auto was hit. The express from Atlanta to Washington brought the dead and injured to town.
Three small boys were instantly killed Sunday afternoon near Pekan Kansas when they were struck by a train. The accident occurred as the youths stood on or near the tracks, prompting a swift police and railroad investigation. Continued on Page Two.
