Mexican pension bill dominates Senate action at Washington

The Mexican pension bill was debated with Ingalls amendment on dating pensions to union soldiers, opposing by Sherman who warned of treasury strain. Ingalls’ amendment was defeated 26 to 1. House debated sundry civil bills, pensions, and fortifying land grants as other measures moved forward. The day closed with adjournment and plans for further votes and adjournment around July 5.
