National Guard reinforcements to reach General Funston within a week or ten days. Large numbers will accompany the effort to bolster Carranza’s soldiers along the aid Grande.
Reports say an American force of at least 28 000 will be sent to the border within a week as General Funston requests rapid deployment. The guard units from Texas New Mexico and Arizona total over 46 000 and plans include a reserve on the San Antonio line and further stations posed for a possible large-scale operation in northern Mexico.
The Senate commerce subcommittees met at noon to consider a shipping bill and a post office appropriation. Diplomatic appropriation was also considered. The session recessed at 2 40 p m and adjourned to 11 00 a m Wednesday. A subcommittee debated whether District Attorney Marshall of New York was in contempt of the House for alleged criticisms. Waukegan June 20 Celestia Youker the other girl in the William H M Orpet murder case is expected to testify tomorrow as the state's case nears conclusion. Much testimony today covered allegedly nude statements by Orpet his lawyers police and reporters with admissibility challenged. Witnesses were questioned while the jury was excluded and brought back for admissible portions.
