Edmund T. Dana an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota described his wife Mrs. Dana’s death by drowning at Nantucket as a tremendously tragic but beautiful end. He said she believed dying by one’s own will was more dignified than a fatal accident. She was the daughter of Henry Holliday and a granddaughter of Longfellow.
