In the Hornet copper mine eighteen miles north of Redding California two loaders and mucker died after a shaft collapse. Charles Isenberg was not expected to recover and Richard Witschel of Reno plus two unnamed miners were among the injured. Survivors freed themselves and escaped through rock and earth as tons of debris buried the shaft area. Bodies of Patrick and Frank remained in debris at press time.

In Tarrytown New York a door key found in ragged coverings over a skeleton at a 90 foot quarry ends a nine-year case. Mrs A M Heatis identifies the remains as her brother Benjamin J Connor of Eastview who had lived with her since 1896 after separating from his wife. Connor was 69 when he disappeared and police deem suicide likely.
In Philadelphia on June 12, Senator David A. Reed denounced Pennsylvania's direct primary as a "silly mechanism" and urged a return to the convention system. The gathering, led by Mellon as state chairman, reappointed officers amid calls to reconsider the popular primary reform adopted two decades ago.
Charles Wagoner, 55, a Yavapai county prospector, was found guilty of first degree murder for the slaying of Tom Glasgow, a fellow prospector. The jury fixed the penalty at life imprisonment after about an hour of deliberation. Wagoner did not testify. he faces sentencing in June. Glasgow was killed near Wagoner’s cabin near Bumbiebe, Christmas Eve, with Glasgow’s effects removed and later found in Wagoner’s cabin.

Gonsul reports Dawson died by his own hand after being found with a head wound near Los Mochis. Consul Blocker in Maratlan cites hospital death and unemployment as cited cause. Los Mochis officials and other consuls dispute this, while Dawson's wife Filipina Dawson was away in Empalme.
Cleve W. Van Dyke of Miami resigned as chairman of the Arizona Industrial Commission. Governor Hunt appointed secretary Harry B. McCluskey to the board, effective July 1. Van Dyke was an original member of the body created by the last legislature.
Adolfo de la Huerta, former provisional president of Mexico, stated he has no part in upheaval preparations and would not start a revolt. He warned a revolution may be coming, but added he would lead if the Mexican people asked, a claim issued after a San Antonio newspaper quoted him.
