Battleship Mississippi disaster claims many aboard
A massive explosion aboard the battleship Mississippi at San Pedro California on June 12 killed three officers and forty six enlisted men and injured twenty. A flare back from a 14 inch rifle ignited the powder supply wiping out the turret crew and wounding others in the handling room. A surge of flames burned sailors and the blast hurled debris as more than fifty men crowded nearby.

Street car collision injures two men in West Central crash
George W. Hughett and Captain J. F. Harn were hurt when a Dodge roadster struck a street car at 13600 West Central about 1:45 in the evening. The car was moved from the track after the impact and car traffic halted for about 90 minutes. Hughett lost consciousness briefly but recovered. Harn suffered bruises, cuts, and chipped teeth. Mrs. Frances M. Parker, the street car operator, was uninjured.
