British agitators call for anarchy as hunger striking suffragettes threaten to let themselves die. A controversial Cat and Mouse Act may be dispensed with by the people, prompting debate on public order and suffrage tactics.
The Evening Standard reports clergymen support authorising prison authorities to let suffragettes starve without forcible feeding. Reactions from Father Vaughan, Rev Waldron, and Rev Free endorse letting hunger strikers die, while others condemn both starvation and forcible feeding as impractical.
Arthur C. Strom of Des Moines is likely fatally shot after a pursuit and battle with a posse following a Saturday hold up. He allegedly confessed that his companions were Earl and Earnest Jones, recently released from the Iowa state prison. The Jones brothers were later seen at a Knox county farm house, where they forced breakfast and brandished revolvers. They netted $150 in cash while seizing $21,000 in securities that were not negotiable. Victims were farmers Henry and Frederick Schwith.
