Delegates of the Bull Moose convention hail Colonel hour and a half during the session. Temporary chairman Robins signals with a mention of Roosevelt prompting an unparalleled demonstration.
A riotous roar greeted Theodore Roosevelt at the June 7 Progressive National Convention in Chicago. Delegates cheered, chanted Teddy slogans, and surged through the Auditorium for over an hour as leaders debated delaying nominations amid a wild outdoor procession.
The 11:00 p.m. meeting approved a diplomatic and consular appropriation bill totaling 5 million dollars and passed numerous minor measures. The session adjourned at 2:10 p.m. and reconvenes at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
The Progressive National Convention opened amid strong Roosevelt enthusiasm led by Raymond Robins, with leaders asserting unity on a national preparedness program. Robins framed American greatness as earned through social and economic security, not mere military power, and pledged loyalty to progressive principles even if it means running alone.
Muscovites seize substantial war material in a fresh offensive south of the Pripet River. Commanders report 400 officers and 20 000 troops involved as the operation unfolds.

German victory at Jutland is reflected in British loss figures with 106000 tons of main ships sunk versus about 24000 for the Germans. English losses included several modern ships while the Wiesbaden was the sole modern German warship lost. Naval circles credit German strategy and airship scouting with the victory.
London reports an official statement from the German admiralty that a British submarine was sunk in the North Sea battle on May 21. The British ant. Marines at sea on that date have returned, so the sunk vessel is presumed to be an enemy submarine and should be counted among German losses per the June 4 British admiralty note.
Del Rio area swathed in dense smoke as forest fires burn about forty square miles in the Santa Rosa Mountains seventy miles west of Del Rio Texas. Dry weather and high temperatures blamed for the blazes.
Santa Fe June 7 Marron New Mexico state treasurer and Francia K E Wood his Albuquerque based law partner were suspended from federal court practice for two years after a hearing on four unprofessional conduct charges brought by a bar committee.
German troops captured Fort Vaux near Verdun, ending the French garrison's resistance. An attempted relief operation failed, with 700 prisoners taken and the fortress officially surrendered from Verdun headquarters.
Chicago reports a two hour Republican session at the Coliseum with Harding delivering a prepared keynote while the Progressive gathering at the Auditorium theater erupted in a long, cheering march led by Theodore Roosevelt advocates. Stormy rain drenched delegates, soaking crowds and dampening outdoor events as suffragists persisted and booster banners drooped.

New York beats St Louis 8 to 1 aided by Keating Nanama and teammates in a rain halted day. All other American League games postponed due to rain.
Reported tonight fifty seven deaths from yesterday's Arkansas storm with over five hundred injured. Heber Springs bears the heaviest toll with about twenty killed and sixty injured. Judsonia lists nine dead all Negro, while three whites were badly hurt and may die. The storm affected nearly every county along Alabama Arkansas Missouri lines.
A deadly tornado struck Jackson Mississippi early today killing twelve people and injuring over seventy five. The storm carved a 100 yard wide path through the residential area damaging more than 250 houses and causing an estimated 500000 dollars in property loss. White victims included Mrs Annie Jelks and Walter De Mott. additional deaths occurred near Vicksburg and among other residents.
A Mexican named Luis Sanches Mena was arrested in Chihuahua City for attempting to obtain promises from Mexicans to aid the United States in case of intervention. He confessed and faces court martial. Separately, reports note executions of looters Pedro Jacquez and Arcadio Luna and bandit surrenders near La Barra and Rio Florida with forces retreating to Cerro del Pinon.
Unofficial returns show Iowa voters reject the constitutional amendment granting women suffrage in the Monday primary. County results from 93 of 99 report 137,760 in favor and 143,469 against, a lead of 5 900 votes.
Senator Borah and Colonel Koosvelt discussed efforts to unite the Republican and Progressive parties by telephone and meeting with George W. Perkins. Borah said a harmony plan may form a progressive pull to Hughes’s nomination, while Perkins echoed brighter prospects for cross party accord and discussed official conference committees.

A Chicago telegram from Prank Hubbell at the Republican National Convention reports New Mexico has organized its delegation. On the first ballot the state votes will be split among Hoosevelt Hughes and Weeks with Senator Paul and Eduardo M. Mero backing Roosevelt, Hernandez and Gallegos backing Hughes, and Catron and J M Cunningham backing Weeks. It looks like Hurthes.
