Felix Martinez received three votes and others split among Mabry Butt and Republican lawmakers while Holt announced the election would proceed under the law. In Paso Texas on June 4 W H Seamon provoked a clash by resisting rebel seizure of his shotgun at Juarez. Rebel officials, fearing complications, allowed the weapon to cross the border but American army officers later detained Seamon to stop armed crossing into the United States.
