Reported by the Associated Press from Tales and Tulea on June 3 martial law was declared and an order signed by Adj General Barrett under Governor Robertson to quell the disturbance. Officers attributed the cause to radical activity as the unrest persisted into Wednesday afternoon.

Lord Byng of Vimy Ridge is appointed governor general of Canada in place of the Duke of Devonshire. Born September 11, 1862, he is the seventh son of the Earl of Stratford and earned a baronetcy in 1919 for World War I service commanding multiple corps. He led Canadian forces at Vimy Ridge and fought at Cambrai and Dardanelles.
Dr. Simon Baruch noted physician and hydrotherapy expert died at 1 10 this afternoon in New York at age 81 from a lung ailment complicated by heart disease. Born in Germany he came to America and earned a degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1862. He served as a Confederate army surgeon and was twice captured while tending wounded. Baruch specialized in chronic diseases and helped introduce free municipal bath houses. He was father of financier Bernard M. Baruch.
In El Paso Texas June 2 Associated Press report says Pabto Arriaga an alleged liquor smuggler was seriously wounded during a gun battle with customs guards near Eighth Street. He and Jose Martinez were surrounded for fifteen minutes as officers tried to halt them. Thirty three quarts and thirty six pints of tequila were found near Martinez and Arriaga. Arriaga died at a hospital while Martinez pleaded guilty to legal possession of tequila and passport law violations.
Denver June 2 Great Western Sugar Company the region’s top beet sugar producer announces a price drop of 35 cents per hundred pounds The new base price listed is 6 15 per hundred pounds for beet sugar and 4 75 for cane sugar in New Orleans and nearby markets
Knox Indiana June 1 the jury trying Cecil Burkett 11 for the murder of Renny Slavin 7 was discharged after eighteen hours without agreement. The state plans a retrial in October and the father demands another trial.
Four constables died and five were wounded in an ambush around 16 o'clock this morning near Boerrisokane in County Tipperary. The constables were traveling by motor car and by bicycle when attacked by civilians hiding in the woods, an official statement says.
