A force of five hundred police acts to prevent damage to city car barns as strike sympathizers threaten destruction in Philadelphia. Authorities reinforce security to deter violence during labor unrest.
Philadelphia dispatch says a conference including State Senator McNichol Mayor Reyburn and railroad officials likely ends the trolley strike within hours. Workers in Kensington attacked the main barn. police held the mob with 500 officers as rioting spread citywide. Employers offered 22 cents an hour, down from 25, with workers to vote on the compromise tomorrow.
In Costinga on June 1 two men died when dynamite exploded prematurely while clearing a derrick obstruction. The two victims were badly mangled in the blast during the attempted removal work.
Vancouver report June 2 states H Baldwin of Ateander Baldwin Co, Hewai sugar planter, says Japanese workers will be dropped due to difficulties. Portuguese will be imported to take their places on the plantations.
Heavy rains and warm spells flood rivers and streams in the Kootenai tableland. Along the Canadian Pacific line between Nelson and Blocan City several washouts interrupt railroad communication and halt passenger service.
Freight traffic halted as boats handle the load between Nelson and Rosebery. A water overflow five miles from Nelson washed out 200 feet of Canadian Pacific track and 200 feet of Great Northern track, severing train communication with Spokane via Marches and Tossland.
Rev J Preston Sear president of the New Brunswick theological seminary submitted a report at the general synod session in Rochester advising an alliance of the reformed churches holding the Presbyterian system. The movement for this alliance is worldwide.

Ralph Rogers, a banker, and his son were attacked by two Agua Caliente reservation police in Palm Springs. They were shot at, surrendered, handcuffed, and held for eight hours in a desert sun. A deputy U.S. marshal later released them, and Rogers blamed government agent Clara True for ordering the action.
Heavy rains and warm weather raise the Kootenay River area flood risk as the Crow's Nest valley section reports the river as a good stage. Train service in that section is demoralized and disrupted by rising water.

Montgomery June 1 The state supreme court ordered Sheriff Frank Caselass of Mobile removed from office after a trial on dereliction of duty for allowing four Black men to be lynched in Mobile on January 21.
New York reports a plan to list United States Rubber Company first preferred stock on the Paris Bourse. A French syndicate owns 50 000 shares with a par value of 5 000 000 dollars and negotiations to list in Paris are practically concluded.
In Los Lunas New Mexico on June 10 1908 Mrs Martha Murray wife of defendant Fred Murray testified she had illicit relations with German the murdered man. The defense argues temporary insanity at the time of the shooting and witnesses support mental aberration. The trial continued with testimony from doctors and police officers as jurors prepare to deliberate.
Benjamin Miller, accused of extorting 590 dollars from Mrs. Benjamin Porter, was arrested after delivering 300 dollars hidden at a door knob corner. Detro detectives fired, captured Miller who said a hired man planned the scheme after confessing to stabbing Porter’s wife’s lover. Porter’s disappearance has puzzled police for weeks.
Japanese residents in the United States and Canada must register with the nearest consul under new immigration regulations issued in Tokyo. The order follows the Monteagle's departure from Yokohama for Victoria, British Columbia, dated June 3.

In New Orleans on June 3, William B Blessing, 30, attacked his sister Bessie Blessing, 20, with a hatchet when told she would wed that night. He inflicted serious wounds and sprayed acid in her face, promising lifelong disfigurement.
Ten or eleven supposed lepers from Molokai have been found free of leprosy after re examination by the territorial legislative committee. Ages range from six to ninety nine including two young boys. Some patients may petition to return to the island as they have been isolated for years. Nineteen other supposed lepers will be brought from the settlement for re examination soon.
Wisconsin Senator La Follette faced sharp criticism from conservatives for missing the night session on the tariff bill. Beveridge and others defended his illness and absence while the chamber debated schedules and a Bradley amendment on flax, hemp, and jute duties.

A gas line explosion in the basement of O. K. B. Harris’s Redlands residence at noon today wrecked the large house and fatally burned Virginia Harris aged 18.
