Allies report continued German advance halted as Germany claims capture of 45 000 prisoners and thousands of guns. Official Teutonic communication states many captives taken and large quantities of supplies secured.
German forces push toward Marne with rapid advances, claiming gains of up to twenty six miles in four days. Allied lines show strain as observers note a darkening outlook for the battlefield.
A German official communiqué reports to the Allies that German forces captured over 45,900 prisoners, more than 400 guns and thousands of machine guns during actions south of Soissons and along the Aisne and Vesle fronts. It notes unsuccessful Allied counterattacks and breakthroughs toward the Marne, with additional captures around Rheims and Fere En Tardenois.
French and Allied forces repelled a strong German push along the Allette river while maintaining a stubborn defense along the eastern flank. Amid heavy combat near Soissons and the Oise, French divisions exhibited decisive resistance and tenacious counterattacks against superior German numbers.

The vote included amendments restricting speed devices in plants and excluding most cost plus contracts except in emergencies.
A Sterling man, A Miller of Sterling Colorado, was found guilty by a U S district court jury of violating the espionage act. He advised a young man subject to the draft that he would refrain from registering and joining the colors. The case was decided in Denver. Miller faces a two year sentence at Port Leavenworth.
John Ross Robertson, proprietor of the Toronto Evening Telegram, died at his home in Toronto May 31 after a weeks long illness from pneumonia. He was in his seventy seventh year.
