Charles Moyer president of the Western Federation of Miners is released on bail of 25000 by Judge Wood after acquittal in the murder of former Governor Steunenberg. Pettibone seeks speedy trial with potential bond later. Haywood remains at liberty under supportive public reaction praising labor triumph over capital.

Prescott Arizona July 29 Thomas W Lawson of Boston has purchased the Arizona Smelting company plant in this county. The deal involves 17 million dollars and gives Lawson control of many mines in the region.
In Paris on July 29 Prince Alex Orloff of Russia was badly wounded in the face when a broomstick was hurled at his automobile. The assailant, described as an anti autoist, was arrested at the scene.
Fred Magill and wife Fay Graham Magill returned from California to face a county jail display as the special grand jury investigates the death of Magill’s first wife Pet Magill. Fay Magill admits marrying Magill soon after Pet Magill’s death but says she and Magill are innocent of Pet’s death.
A freight collision near Otero station, south of Raton, involved the second section of No. W westbound Santa Fe freightracing into the first section as it slowed for Santa Fe limited No. 4. No crew injuries reported though the caboose burned and the engine and several freight cars were wrecked. Detours affected multiple trains along the route.
A heavy eastbound freight train and a coal car derailment halted main line traffic for about thirty minutes and caused hours of work at Lamy July 29. The wreck tore the train into sections and blocked the track. crews cleared the debris without a wrecker.
Henry Huntington, a would-be fratricide, is reported to have attempted strangulation with a handkerchief while in a jail cell. The incident underscores a violent episode linked to his alleged plan.

Worcester Massachusetts July 29 General Josiah Pickett eighty five years old and a Civil War veteran is said to be dying here He is technically a military prisoner At Cold Harbor base he commanded the Twenty fifth Massachusetts and in a burst of temper replied roughly to General Stannard who arrested him and confiscated his sword The arrest was never reversed though Stannard commended Pickett for valor and Pickett says he will die under arrest
A sensational heat visitation in McGregor Texas lasted an hour and twenty minutes with sun temps at 179 degrees and 117 in shade. A veil like phenomenon hung over a three by two mile area as scores of people collapsed. Livestock numbers were reported fallen including thirty five cattle killed by the heat.
In Berlin on July 29 a wave of fear followed a reported ripper incident in which a woman found a man striking an eleven year old girl. The crowd then beat a harmless man who offered a child candy. A second child was stabbed in Schoenhauser Alle, a crowded workers district.
Quito and Guayaquil July 28. A court martial convicted fifteen soldiers in the posthead plot against President General Alfaro and sentenced them to death by firing squad. Nine other soldiers received life penal servitude. The government uncovered a new Quito conspiracy with leaders fleeing toward Guayaquil.
United States Senator Foraker states it is impossible to back Secretary Taft for president under present conditions. He writes to C B McCoy outlining that Ohio's central committee lacks authority to endorse presidential candidates and urges voters to be heard at the state convention.
